Music Department Intent

The music department at Oakbank is a busy, thriving department with a growing number of pupils opting for GCSE music and taking part in extra-curricular activities. We have one large music room fitted with I.T., keyboards, drums, percussion and guitars and three further practice rooms with additional drum kits, keyboards and electric pianos. We use all these spaces daily as each lesson is heavily based on practical work. Our aim is to provide every pupil at Oakbank with the opportunity to learn and develop their musical skills and open their options to develop a career in the music industry.

Key Stage 3

The curriculum in Year 7, 8 and 9 is designed to cover composition, performance and listening and appraising skills. We will provide all students with the opportunity to learn basic keyboard, percussion, singing and I.T. skills which will lead them towards the GCSE course, making it accessible to all pupils.

Key Stage 4

GCSE students will embark on a 2 year GCSE course with Edexcel and this provides them with a good balance of composition, performance and listening and appraising skills.

Extra-curricular

Our school choir, instrumental group, rock bands and music theatre group form the basis of our termly concerts and performances. Extra-curricular activities are becoming more popular within our growing department and we are looking forward to a packed year of performances both formal and informal.

Instrumental Lessons

We have external teachers that come into school three time a week to teach individual and small group lessons on a wide variety of instruments. We currently provide tuition for piano, singing, drums, guitar, violin and flute but are open to anything your child may be interested in.
